HI best friends! I mentioned on Friday in my Sephora Haul how obsessed and in love with my sample of Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes Statement Mascara I was. So here I am today to do my first ever full on product review (baby steps ya’ll.) Let’s do this!
There she is in all her glory. First off the packaging on this product is gorgeous. Even in miniature form, which to me says a lot. It has this snakeskin/giraffe print pattern all over it with the Tarte name appearing very small at the bottom along with the product name. The saleslady at Sephora encouraged me to get this mainly because she and I had been discussing my obsession with Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara. She said if I loved Benefit I would never let go of Tarte and I think she was right.
First off, I knew I would love it because look at dat brush. I am a fan of big mascara brushes with tapered ends. They tend to grab my lashes really well and give me control over the product. I can get both a natural and over the top finish with mascara, just make sure the brush is huge. Secondly, you can’t see it too well in this photo, but the bristles have a slight telescopic shape to them meaning you can get in there and wriggle and move the brush around and its going to get all of them the first time rather than you sitting there struggling with coat after coat.
I regret that I didn’t do a before and after application photo of how well the product held up over the day but let this above photo speak for itself. That’s with zero eyelash curling that morning and a very small layer of product ( I wanted to do a natural look as I was just going to the office that day.) I took this photo around 5:30pm, a solid 8 hour work day after I first applied the mascara. After wearing the product for around two weeks now I can honestly say I may have found a new favorite (sorry Benefit.) I have tried quite a few high end mascaras (Dior, Benefit, & Bobbi Brown to name a few) but this guy does it all. I can get a super dramatic look or a very natural look. It’s versatile, lasts all day, doesn’t flake or cake, and doesn’t smudge. The smudging was a big worry for me as I have super watery eyes like a little mouse (thanks Dad for blessing me with your horrible vision) and usually always have to wear waterproof mascara to keep from looking like Lauren on The Hills during that one episode. But that wasn’t even a concern with Tarte. I think when I purchase the full size I’ll get the original and not even bother with waterproof. That’s a big deal y’all. Also removal was super easy peasy. Came off like a dream with my usual cleanse off oil.
And that’s all I got. Hope you guys enjoyed my first ever product review! I think I’m going to make this a regular thing. I get so many samples all the time and use them up and forget about them. If I review them maybe I can remember names of ones I actually enjoyed and can go buy them? Hmm…I think these reviews might help us ALL out I do believe.
Make sure you guys come back on Friday because I might have a leetle announcement to make. Just a teensy one but I’m super excited about it. Stay tuned, my lovely chinchillas (I need to give you guys a good nickname.)
